HVAC Project Guide
HVAC estimates can vary because of system size, equipment type, efficiency rating, ductwork, electrical needs, refrigerant line condition, permits, and installation access.
Before comparing estimates: ask whether the contractor performed a load calculation and whether ductwork, thermostat, permits, and removal are included.
What to compare
- System type: central AC, furnace, heat pump, mini-split, or packaged unit
- Efficiency ratings, equipment model numbers, and warranty terms
- Duct inspection, airflow concerns, drain lines, and electrical updates
- Maintenance expectations, timeline, and emergency replacement options
Questions to ask
- How was the system size selected?
- Are permits, removal, startup testing, and thermostat setup included?
- What labor warranty applies to installation issues?
- What maintenance is required to keep warranty coverage valid?
